Excerpt from History of Philosophy, Vol. 2 of 3The part of the History of Philosophy of which the present volume treats I attempted to present in an extended work, the first division of which appeared thirty-three years ago, and was separated from the last division by a space of twenty years. I may be permitted to say something respecting the relation in which the present, probably my last published work, stands to that earlier, which was my first.
